Alan Heller

History

Alan Heller was a designer and manufacturer who created an impressive collection of housewares and furniture that are both whimsical and elegant.

As the son of a housewares manufacturer, he was always passionate about design. He discovered a set of stackable plastic dishes and cups designed by Massimo Vignelli, the famous Italian graphic designer, and was so impressed by the simplicity and elegance of the design that he sought out Mr. Vignelli and made a deal to produce the pieces again. Thus, the iconic Heller Dinnerware was born.

Heller Dinnerware, designed by Massimo and Lella Vignelli, quickly became a sensation, thanks to its rainbow colors, affordability, and durable construction. It was an instant hit with Americans of all ages, who loved the fun and playful design that made everyday life more pleasurable.

Alan Heller went on to produce many other iconic pieces of furniture and housewares, including the Excalibur Toilet Brush, designed by the legendary French designer Philippe Starck, and The Bellini Chair, a minimalist design that was both beautiful and economical.

Alan Heller's wares were often witty and playful, like the Gladys Goose Lamp, which he named after his girlfriend's beagle. He was always pushing the boundaries of what was possible with plastic, a material that was once considered cheap and ugly. Heller dinnerware, in particular, was a game-changer, showing that plastic could be beautiful, functional, and durable.

Alan Heller's legacy lives on in the many iconic designs he created, which continue to delight and inspire people around the world. He will always be remembered as a visionary designer who brought affordable, high-quality design to the masses, making everyday life more fun and more beautiful.
